ICONS is a light-hearted, satirical look at the weird and wonderful world of celebrity, focusing on the ideas of fame and public exposure in society today. The UK’s obsession with celebrity culture through exhaustive tabloid coverage has evolved into ‘alternative’ celebrity coverage in new media such as the Internet, combining news and a cynical writing tone with wide access to a network of celebrity gossip and rumour.

This project takes the form of a web-based game that invites users to assume the role of a celebrity who is posed with an endless supply of moral ultimatum-style scenarios. Users assess a question or scenario and decide on a path that will lead them to fame and fortune… or shame and rejection. The game play is kept intentionally straightforward, allowing emphasis to be put on user interaction, be it through submitting custom-made scenarios directly to the database, or discussing the latest celebrity happenings with fellow members on the community forum.
